What are the different types of solar panels?

Silicon cell technology makes up the majority of the modules out there today. There are several different types, however the most common are Monocrystalline, Polycrystalline and Thin film.

Solar panels can also be grouped into three other categories: Economy, Standard, and Premium. Premium panels perform the best, but have a higher price, while Economy panels are less expensive but often less durable over time.

These panels are made with multiple thin layers  of PV material on a substrate. Some of these panels can come in a flexible form.

Polycrystalline cells are slightly less efficient however the cells cover more area on the module making the overall module efficiency very close to monocrystalline.

Monocrystalline panels (cells) are among the most efficient available panels. They can easily be distinguished by the white, diamond shape space between the cells.
